| My work is about relationships. Sometimes it is about personal relationships, both external ones between people, and internal ones with oneself and one’s world. Sometimes my work is about how elements of nature interact with each other, and often it is about the relationships among the elements of the piece itself.
The elemental relationship may be the solidity of bronze protectively surrounding a soft ball of felted wool, or perhaps the rich interweaving of a myriad of yarns softly covering a visually crisp steel frame. It could be the contrast of woven surfaces, felted surfaces, and the smooth oiled grain of wood, or the visual blending of colors and textures of different yarns and different weaves. It could be the contrast of crinkled paper with the softness of felted wool. Or it may be the visual flow of the forms within a piece.
I am constantly looking at how one element changes, enhances, or “speaks to” another, and at how the elements may speak about emotions and relationships.
